The upcoming Fantastic Four reboot looks to have finally secured its villain. Toby Kebbell has been offered a deal to play Doctor Doom, the team’s arch-nemesis, in a contemporary update based on the Marvel comic “The Ultimate Fantastic Four.” Kebbell, an English-born actor, is most recently noted as playing Koba in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which is set to be released in July of this year. Kebbell joins the cast alongside Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan
This news follows on the heels of Chris Evans’ (Captain America) endorsement of Michael B. Jordan in the role of Johnny Storm/the Human Torch. Although Evans’ own experience as the Human Torch nearly caused him to forgo the role of Captain America, he still admitted feeling possessive over the role…until he found out who had landed it. “It’s so funny, you almost feel precious over the role that you don’t want someone else to do it,” Evans commented. “But when you hear someone phenomenal is doing it, it’s very exciting like you almost can’t wait.”
The Fantastic Four is slated to hit theaters June 19, 2015 with a sequel following in the summer of 2017.
