In an interview with Digital Spy, Roland Emmerich has confirmed that talks are currently underway with Will Smith about reprising his role as Capt. Steven Hiller in the Independence Day sequel. Not only that, he has also confirmed that talks are also underway with MGM to re-boot the Stargate franchise in a form of a trilogy.
No doubt this news will be welcomed by the numerous Stargate fans all over the globe. Roland Emmerich, who directed and co-wrote the 1994 Stargate movie has somewhat distanced himself from the television shows that followed in the success of the 1994 movie. Stargate SG-1 was the first spin-off series that even went down in the history of sci-fi as the longest running sci-fi TV show. Stargate Atlantis, second series in the franchise to make the appearance also had a nice run of five seasons, while Stargate Universe wasn’t as successful ending after only two seasons.
In addition to the TV shows, Arkalis Interactive has developed Stargate SG-1: Unleashed, a third-person adventure game that is currently available for iOS and Android devices and will be available on Steam in the near future. Voice overs were done by the original cast of SG-1: Richard Dean Anderson as Jack O’Neill, Amanda Tapping as Samantha Carter, Michael Shanks as Dr. Daniel Jackson and Christopher Judge as Teal’c. Check it out in the teaser video below.
Does the future look bright for the Stargate franchise? Would you love to see a new Stargate movie or even a TV show?
