Puppy, Manufactory Romp, and GW2 Rant (not what you think) (#Blaugust 29)

OtterDown Manufactory
HS black lab puppyIt’s going to be a short one today, folks! We had a call-in at work and no one was able to cover the shift, so it was just me and the groomers. The groomers are awesome, and we had a volunteer for part of the day, but I’m still super tired now.

In happier news, an 11 month old black lab I’ve been trying to work with (he’s scared of everything, sits in his cage and shakes) not only came up to me for pets today, but got halfway to sitting in my lap. *melted Gryph* This time, I am going to go ahead and show you what he looks like:

Manufactory

As some of you may know, I got a chance to romp through Manufactory Elite for the first time right after last week’s Beyond the Veil stream. OtterDown otternapped me after kindly waiting until the show was over. The picture at the top of this post is the best one I got, I was too busy trying not to die for most of it. ^^

I absolutely had a blast. I don’t want to spoil anything for folks who want to see it for themselves, but I very much like the new AEGIS-related mechanics. Even some of the non-AEGIS mechanics were very fun, and a great change from the norm. I’m going to have to run it again or find a Youtube clip of the dialogue from the dungeon, though. It’s not OtterDown’s fault either – I can never focus on things like that my first time through.

Some of the highlights of the run included me showing godly dodging technique…and then falling right off a pipe. More than once. Before that, I gracefully jumped out into nothingness, forgetting that the glass had been blown out of the windows moments ago. >_>

It was all kinds of fun, and I’m super happy I got to run with them. 🙂

Guild Wars 2

Today’s announcement about GW2 going F2P for the core game is causing many different reactions on my Twitter timeline. Some people are upset, some are unsure,  and some are cautiously optimistic. While I understand these reactions, there’s one that always gets under my skin when something like this is announced. The people getting their lulz from the news.

The thing is, F2P does not guarantee a game is ruined or dead or any number of other things. I know people have had bad experiences, and maybe they just have a thing against the model regardless. Fine. But if you legitimately believe F2P signals the death of the game, why the hell are you laughing that someone else’s favorite game is “dead?” No, seriously, if it’s the worst thing that can happen to a game, maybe have some honest (not passive-aggressive) sympathy for the players who will have to make the adjustment? I sometimes think gamers as a whole are just very anti anyone-who-isn’t-me having any fun, at all.

Sorry for the rant. GW2 itself doesn’t affect me much either way, to be honest. I got the game as a present right near launch, but haven’t ever really gotten around to playing it. I don’t have the emotional investment in the game that regular players have, and even if I was going to be mad that it used to cost money (which…well, I have my own opinions on that, but respect that it very much bothers some) I got it as a gift. It’s the attitude some comments show, in this case and other times games have gone F2P. Makes me wonder if the internet gives out “Most Loudly Cynical” awards.

And now, another shot of the cute puppy to balance out the rant. I’m off to play some more Fran Bow, and there’s only two more days left of Blaugust, yay! 😀
