A killer/crazy AI in a Japanese setting would be in line with what TSW does. For example, it’s no different than the Lovecraft loveletter that is Kingsmouth. People enjoy those references and building on things they know.
TSW is filled with cliches for each area. The fun part is that TSW handles them well and ties them into a larger story and usually has a few surprises of its own.
Also, comic looks great!
