Gamecompany: Hey, we have this idea for a game, but we need all of you to pay us money up front.
Gamecompany: Hey, we have an alpha of the game, pay us so you can get an early access and be our testers.
Gamecompany: Hey, we’re launching the game, pay us money. Og, and the server will come down for a patch tomorrow.

Gameponay: Hey, out GUI sucks a bit. But you can buy a new one from these people not remotely affiliated with us, and we’ll even get 50 % of the sale. How awesome is that?
Yes. This is a hyperbole, but it’s also true in some cases.
As for mods, I don’t like to use them. I can tolerate a few QoL mods. But if the game “needs” a mod for me to play and/or enjoy it, then that game goes to the trashbin.
