We expected a lot of entries, but to be honest- over 130? That’s phenomenal! Unfortunately, it also meant a LOT of reading on our part (as well as our Cabal Sponsor’s!). We eventually came up with criteria for the perfect entry. It needed to grab our attention from the outset. It needed to grab us and not let go. It also needed to progress characters in a very cramped bit of space, showing off an ability to cultivate words with imagery, while maintaining a strong narrative. We picked one, out of the many, that shook us like an Ak’ab with a new toy. While not everyone’s American dream can be perfect, we like Tarik’s diary.
