STLV convention goers name best and worst Star Trek movies

One of the many fun things to do when you’re attending the Star Trek Las Vegas convention, is to attend Jordan Hoffman’s One Trek Mind Live panel. This year, Hoffman involved the con-goers in a very heated debate about the best and worst Star Trek movies of all time. Well, until now I should say as I sincerely hope that there’s plenty more to come our way in the Star Trek franchise.

So who were the winners and who were the losers you might wonder? Honestly, some of the answers might surprise you.Here is the list, from the least favorite, to the most favorite Star Trek movie.

7. Galaxy Quest

What really surprised me with this list, is that Galaxy Quest was on it. Seriously? It’s a fun movie, but no matter how much you want to make it a part of Star Trek, it’s not. Clearly, the absolute favorite Trek movie of not just the Las Vegas convention attendees, but also Trek fans in general is Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which in turn is probably the biggest reason why Star Trek Into Darkness got last place. This is what happens when you rehash the most beloved Trek movie out there. The movie may have scored good points with the general public, but not so with the die hard Trekkies attending Hoffman’s panel. I have to say I second this. Simply for its non-originality. STID may have been a good action movie, but it turned out not to be a good Trek movie.

Word to the wise J. J. Abrams – take Star Trek where no one has gone before if you want to score high points with the unforgiving Star Trek community.
