The SDCC 2013 Wrap-Up

On Thursday, July 18th, at 9am the doors were opened and the masses poured in. Thus began this year’s San Diego Comic Con (SDCC). With celebrities from Screen and Film, musicians, artists, writers, cosplayers, and video game developers, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Tom Hiddleston

A who’s who of industry greats were in attendance this year, with Tim Lee, Bruce Timm, and Neil Gaiman to name but a few. And yes….that was a bit skewed towards DC…. For you Marvel fans, Stan  Lee was in attendance to announce his Masters of the Universe figure, Hugh Jackman gave us a sample of “Wolverine: The Musical” (tongue-in-cheek) and Tom Hiddleston in full Loki regalia tops the list of my favorite panels.

Next…the costumes. What is a Comic Con without cosplay! Fans of all ages turned out dressed to the nines. Some the genres included: Marvel Zombies, hipster Disney Princesses, DC Infinite Crisis,  Bioshock Infinite, Halo’s Master Chief, and Game of Thrones. No stone was left unturned and no fabric, paper mache, cardboard box or garbage bag was left unused. You can see it all.

YayaHan

The pro’s turned out in force as well. Yaya Han’s Baroness alla GI Joe (my favorite) was a rousing smash as was Adrian Curry in her many varied costumes. Getting in on the fun was SourceFEDNerd’s Meg Turney with her Bioshock Infinite’s Elizabeth costume.

Video game developers made quite a showing with trailers and panels for titles such as “Batman: Arkham Origins”, “Saints Row 4” and “Watch Dogs”. Possibly one of the biggest announcements was a teaser for the upcoming “Firefly Online”. Described as a social game for the mobile platform, it will allow you to interact with friends to cavort around the galaxy. Rumor has it – a version for the PC is also in development.

SDCC Alien

And finally…the toys. Collectibles. The must haves. The SDCC exclusives that so many of us crave but are unable to obtain. As usual they were in abundance and flying off the dealer room shelves. From a bronze Mass Effect Normandy replica, a Mega Man aluminum 3DS cover, and a GI Joe’s Baroness walking Transformers’ Ravage on a leash to a bloody, naked Brock Sampson from The Venture Bros and action figures from the movie “Alien” that are based on prototypes yet never made. Didn’t make it to SDCC this year but want these must haves? Check ebay and Amazon and hope you can stomach ramen for the next month!
